Privacy Policy

India@1947 does not collect personal data. There is no account, no sign-in, no advertising and no analytics. The app asks nothing of you, and nothing you do in it is sent anywhere that could identify you.
This policy explains that in detail, because "we collect nothing" is a claim worth showing rather than asserting. It applies to the website at [[SET: your production domain]] and to the Android application published from it.
Who operates this
Altrix Labs Private Limited operates India@1947 as an educational, non-commercial project. For the purposes of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the data fiduciary for the limited processing described below.
What is stored on your device
The app keeps a few things in your browser's local storage so that it remembers what you were doing. None of it is transmitted to us or to anyone else. It stays on your device until you clear it or uninstall the app.

You can clear your question history at any time with the Clear history button on the Ask Freedom AI screen. Clearing the app's storage, or uninstalling it, removes everything listed above permanently. We cannot recover it, because we never had it.
The Android app disables Android's automatic cloud backup, so none of this is copied to your Google Drive.
What leaves your device
The Freedom Pledge counter
If you take the Freedom Pledge, the app sends one request to our own server which adds one to a single shared number. That request carries no message body, no cookie, no device identifier and nothing about you. It records that a pledge was taken, never whose.
To stop that counter being inflated by automated scripts, our server briefly counts requests per network. It does this by taking a one-way, salted hash of the network address the request arrived from, holding it for ten minutes and then discarding it. The hash is never linked to a pledge, never used to recognise you and never stored beyond that window.
Ordinary web server logs
The app is hosted by [[SET: your hosting provider — Vercel or Netlify]]. Like every web host, it writes access logs containing the IP address, the time of the request, the page requested and the browser's user-agent string. These are retained by the provider for [[SET: the provider's retention period]] and are used only to keep the service running and secure. We do not analyse them to build any profile of visitors.
Nothing else
The app loads no fonts, scripts, images or data from any other company. There is no advertising network, no analytics service, no social media pixel, no crash reporter and no third-party SDK of any kind. When you follow a link out to an archive such as Wikimedia Commons or the National Archives of India, that site's own privacy policy applies — and our referrer settings mean it is told only that you came from this site, not which page you were reading.
Cookies
None. The app sets no cookies at all.
Children
India@1947 is an educational history archive suitable for school-age users. Because it collects no personal data from anyone, it collects none from children either. It contains factual descriptions of colonial-era violence, including massacres and executions, as any honest account of this history must.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and under the GDPR where it applies, you have rights to access, correct, and erase personal data held about you, and to complain to a supervisory authority.
In practice we hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to produce, correct or erase. The information the app keeps is on your own device and entirely under your control: clear it in the app, or uninstall. Server logs are held by our hosting provider under their own policy and are not searchable by us against any individual.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever begins collecting data — for example if the optional remote AI provider is switched on — this policy will be updated before that change ships, and the Play Store Data Safety declaration will be updated with it.
